We strongly recommend using the Main Entrance on the east side of the Touhill Performing Arts Center (located off Natural Bridge Road) for easiest access to the Lee Theatre. Have your professional learning ticket or photo ID ready to show the SBE24 Planning Committee members at the registration tables, who will check you in and provide all materials. A delicious continental breakfast spread will be provided from 7:45am-8:30am to fuel up for the day. Attendees can enjoy fresh fruit, pastries, biscuits with sausage/turkey sausage, eggs and potatoes plus coffee, juice and soda. Please plan to arrive early to take advantage of the breakfast offered before the program begins.

In this interactive session, Dr. Billie Mayo will facilitate healing dialogues and mind/body practices designed to help participants understand and transcend internalized racial trauma. Attendees will examine personal and collective impacts of inequality, rediscover our shared humanity through unity-centered activities, and identify actionable next steps to break free from systemic marginalization. The workshop promises an introspective, uplifting experience that empowers attendees to rewrite limiting narratives with compassion and wisdom.
Hear firsthand from Lauren C., a St. Charles County high school student impacted by a local school district’s decision to remove and then reinstate Black history and literature classes under stricter control. This poignant 45-minute "storytelling as advocacy" session creates space for open dialogue around protecting classes that affirm identity, foster belonging and ensure accurate representation. Attendees will leave empowered to keep driving student-centered change in their own communities.
A traditional Tex-Mex buffet spread including tacos, beef/chicken, Spanish rice, toppings and dessert will be provided. An assortment of beverages like iced tea, lemonade and water will also be available. Equity initiatives often stall transforming marginalized student outcomes despite good intentions. In this interactive session, Dr. Darryl Diggs moves beyond piecemeal gestures to catalyze real, systemic change. We will analyze common missteps sabotaging even well-meaning DEI efforts. Apply an “Organizational Equity Lens” to pinpoint gaps in your current strategy and culture undermining progress. Participants will leave with a roadmap of concrete actions to evolve established routines from surrogate to substantive. The session promises an open forum to unpack complex dynamics impeding districts from living equity values. The goal is to ignite motivation, strategic clarity, and peer backing to lead through resistance. This session offers tools and momentum for the journey.
In this session, Tracie Berry-McGhee, M.Ed will tackle the critical issue of burnout among educators advancing equity efforts. Attendees will identify signs of burnout and examine its impacts if unaddressed, discuss the role of boundaries and self-care, and discover collaborative strategies that build resilience by connecting leaders with compassion. The session equips attendees to nurture personal and collective wellness as the core of managing this urgent yet demanding work.
